Hello Christopher!
I'm glad to visit your blog, it is very inspiring! Just give you a bit of my background story.. I'm Karen from Hong Kong but I moved to Australia few years ago. I've been playing the piano since I was six and grew up listening to Canto-pop. My taste in music varies but I guess Pop is my favourite. You are one the my favourite composers Chris! As I always listen to the songs you composed (especially 披星戴月, 不吐不快, 你們的幸福, I'm always emotionally moved whenever I listen them haha), I've become much more appreciative of them! And that's why I'm now asking for your advices.
What qualifications does a music producer require basically? Music is indeed my deepest passion and it is what I just love to do. At the moment I'm a Year10 student and want to pursue a career in music industry (composition& production) in the future, not just because it's something I do simply for the sheer enjoyment of it, but also because of my increasing appreciation of music. I do piano grades and music theory as well however I still don't think I have strong music knowledge, so it's a bit abstract how I want to become songwriter in the future.
Life in Australia is definitely a little more relaxing compared to Hong Kong in which sometimes I feel like I'm luckier than others. As people always say "LIVE YOUR LIFE THE WAY YOU WANT TO', that's why I want to actually do something for my dream instead of chilling and wasting time from now on.
Anyways, I believe there will be plenty of time to expand my skills and knowledge. So how do I start out to develop myself further? Are there any courses you could recommend me to take as well?
What should I do? Could you please give me some advice?

Two common ways of getting into the industry:
1) Get signed with a music publishing company, which serves as an agent to promote your music to record companies for commercial usage. You can find a list of music publishers on CASH website (www.cash.org.hk) for reference. Send demos to them to explore opportunities for cooperation.
2) Enter a competition (e.g. on singing or songwriting), which may provide you with opportunities to get into contact with and promote your works to producers and record company executives, etc..
It would also be a definite advantage if you have solid training in music composition, arrangement or production. You can enroll in degree / diploma programmes in pop / classical music offered by universities or other tertiary / professional institutions to equip yourself in advance. These programmes are widely available in HK and in other countires.
