Interview with CASH

Thanks a lot again to Vicky, Ivy and Angelina for doing and arranging the interview.

The full pdf version of this magazine can be downloaded from http://www.cash.org.hk/ .

P.S.: Just a minor clarification that I was encouraged by a friend to send demos to music publishers in Taiwan (rather than being introduced to them).

Thanks very much, Johnny! Happy to know you especially like 不方便的真相!

The CASH video interviews were quite detailed - it was a pleasure to have that opportunity to share some views, although I'm still relatively new in this field.

Last year, I have been having a very low 創作量 due to various other things, but a new song I composed will be released soon. Hope you'll like it!

Christopher,

According to what I know, composition of melody normally happens first, after which it comes to lyrics-writing and then arrangement. Sometimes, especially for Mandarin songs, some writers like to compose melodies based on lyrics that already exist. (I tried that a couple of times too; also, I once wrote both the melody and lyrics of an English song simultaneously, though these have not been published yet.) On the other hand, I heard of cases in which arrangement was available before lyrics writing took place.

I arranged a song of mine published in a non-commercial CD some years ago. I sure agree there are good things about arranging one's own works, but it isn't something I plan to do for the time being. So far, I do like the music arrangement done by other musicians for most of my songs - it's very fortunate that most arrangers with whom I had the chance to cooperate were highly professional and attentive to details :)

Christopher, I just watched your interview on CASH Flow. Congratulations and thanks for the encouragement. I'm a signed songwriter but haven't been published yet. My styles are all over the place now and I really admire how your songs are consistent yet different.

If you have time, please give me some feedback.

Thank you for your kind words, Jony. I like the songs you wrote, which are pleasant to listen to! Also glad to notice many of your songs are of Christian themes. Keep composing! I look forward to hearing more of your new songs in future.
